The only information we collect at this stage is:
We do not collect your name, email address, age, school, or any information that identifies you as a person.
A future version of Pekanga will offer optional student accounts. When that happens, this Privacy Notice will be updated before you are asked to create an account. We will not collect any additional data without telling you first.
We use anonymous usage data to understand how the platform is being used so we can improve it, ensure it is working correctly, and comply with our legal obligations. We do not use any data for advertising, marketing, or to sell to third parties.
Under UK GDPR, we need a lawful basis to process data. For Pekanga's current anonymous usage data, our lawful basis is legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)): the legitimate interest of operating and improving the platform.
Where Pekanga is accessed through a school, the school acts as the data controller for its students. Pekanga acts as a data processor and processes data only on the school's instructions under a Data Processing Agreement. The school holds the lawful basis for its students' use of the platform.
We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with employers, universities, or advertisers.
We may share anonymised, aggregated data (which cannot identify you) with our technical hosting providers and privacy-preserving analytics tools. If we ever need to share personal data with any third party, we will tell you in advance and update this notice.
| Type of data | Retention period |
|---|---|
| Anonymous usage data | Up to 12 months for platform improvement, then deleted |
| Technical server logs | Up to 30 days for security purposes, then deleted |
| Personal data (future accounts) | Will be defined when accounts are introduced — we will tell you before then |
We aim to use as few cookies as possible. At the current stage, we use only essential cookies required for the platform to work. These do not track you.
If we introduce analytics cookies in future, we will ask your permission first via a consent banner before placing them. You can refuse non-essential cookies at any time using the cookie settings link in the footer.
Pekanga uses AI to generate personalised career pathway information based on your subject inputs. This is a functional process — it generates information to help you, not a profile about you as a person.
Under UK data protection law, you have the following rights over your personal data. Because we currently store very little data about you, most of these rights apply primarily when user accounts are introduced.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@pekanga.co.uk. We will respond within one calendar month.
Pekanga is designed for students aged 13 and above. We take the protection of children's data seriously and comply with the ICO Age Appropriate Design Code (Children's Code). This Privacy Notice is written to be understood by anyone aged 13 and above, in line with that Code.
If you are under 13, please do not use the platform directly. Access for under-13s must be facilitated through a school that has a Data Processing Agreement with Pekanga.
If you have any questions about this Privacy Notice or how we handle your data, contact us at hello@pekanga.co.uk.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data and we have not been able to resolve your concern, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or by calling 0303 123 1113.
